Dear Anti-Racist Parent,
I’m looking for some resources on talking about race, adoption, and transracial adoption that I can pass on to my daughter’s preschool teacher.
I’ve googled a variety of things but haven’t had much luck. Anything anyone can offer would be appreciated.
Thank you,
From Mindy in Iowa
If you’re interested in submitting a question, please email us at team@loveisntenough.com and put “Ask Anti-Racist Parent” in the subject line. You can read past Ask Anti-Racist columns here.

When I read your post, two kids’ books came immediately to mind. One is called “Horace” and the other is called “A Mother for Choko”. They used different kinds of animals as a stand in for racial diversity, but they explore the basic questions about transracial adoption in a way that’s appropriate for young kids. And you should check out the website for Pact, an Adoption Alliance (www.pactadopt.org). Lots of resources there.
EMK Press has tons of useful resources for parents and schools including the W.I.S.E. Up book for schools:

The Adoption Parenting book is great and covers every aspect of adoption including school stuff.
EMK Press is owned and operated by parents who adopted too.
Look at Adoptive Families magazine web-site. There’s a collection of “classic articles” to be printed that cover topics like how to talk to your child’s teacher, explaining adoption to classmates.
