We have millions of children with possibilities,
from the streets of Nairobi
to the hills of Tennessee.
Every hand you touch has a print with a different name.
What makes this world a better place is that we’re not the same.
Celebrate all our differences.
It’s a colorful world, a beautiful world that we live in.
- From the book and CD “Colorful World” by Cece Winans, lyrics by Cece Winans, Keith Thomas and Alvin Love III, Jerekee Music Publishing
We all know how infectious music can be…for adults and, as anyone who has taken a long car ride while listening to repeated refrains from the latest Barney or Wiggles song from the back seat knows, especially for little ones. If you want children to truly embrace a thought, you can’t go wrong by singing it. “Colorful World” the CD single sets the message of embracing differences to music sung by Grammy-winner Cece Winans, while the book illustrates the message with charming work by Melodee Strong, who is “committed to creating work that accurately represents people of color.” Indeed, it is the illustrations by Strong, coupled with the message of inclusiveness, that make “Colorful World” a treasure. The book and CD are packaged together and available nationwide. They are recommended for children age 4 to 8.

I’ve always loved CeCe’s voice and I really love this song — I’ll definitely add this to my baby’s ipod playlist. (She’s 8 1/2 months old and listens to music every day). I’m always looking for new, uplifting music to expose her little self to.
It might not be the answer to all of the world’s racial woes, but doesn’t music provide some of the best (or worst if you’re not careful) brain/soul washing?
Music can be a good avenue for reaching children.
