The following email was sent to me by Colorlines. I thought many of you might be interested.
Late last year we told you about The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, an important book about racism in the criminal justice system.
At the time, we promised you that author and legal scholar Michelle Alexander would soon join the ColorOfChange community for a conversation about her book and steps we can take together to fight overincarceration in our communities.
Please join us Monday for an interactive conference call. We’ll also hear from activist Susan Burton, a formerly incarcerated woman who now helps other people in the Los Angeles area transition from prison back into the community.
WHEN: Monday, March 14th, 9pm ET / 6pm PT
WHO: Michelle Alexander, Associate Professor of Law, Ohio State University
Susan Burton, Founder and Executive Director, A New Way of Life Reentry Project
James Rucker, Co-founder and Executive Director, ColorOfChange.org
WHAT: The hour-long call will include a Q&A session. Your voice is essential for this conversation to be a success. Please join us, and email any questions you have about the call in advance to firstname.lastname@example.org.
HOW: Sign up here http://act.colorofchange.org/go/776?akid=1928.1079251.wPR2mN&t=2
