It’s been quiet here lately, mostly due to the travails of your co-editors (apologies!), so here is a chance for all of you to catch up. Talk election, talk school-year blues, talk whatever is hitting home for you this week.

I can’t stop thinking about that tragic story about the little boys who were swept away by waves made by Hurricane Sandy in New York. What’s worse is that when the mother tried to seek help, none of the neighbors would help her. One of the neighbors who refused to help her was interviewed by CNN and he seemed extremely defensive about his actions. There’s been speculation that his lack of empathy could be caused by biased racial views towards the mother (she was black while he was white). Unfortunately some comments I read around the web tried to dismiss the theory that race could have played a part, by blaming the mother entirely for the tragedy.

    I know. It’s just haunting.

I don’t think it was racism, most probably the neighbors didn’t want to endanger their own lives and be swept by the water themselves (personally, I can’t say I blame them).

When are you guys coming back! I really miss this blog :)
